Relevant Prognostic Markers of Neuroendocrine Tumors of the Pancreas, Intestine, Kolon and their Metastases: An immunohistochemical analysis of DAXX, ATRX and Next-Generation Sequencing
As neuroendocrine tumors of the pancreas, intestine, and colon increase in incidence, it is crucial to explore relevant prognostic markers for new treatment strategies and a better understanding of the patients' outcomes. Of all so far known markers for NETs, ATRX and DAXX became the center of different studies with varying results. Further, due to advances in tumor sequencing technology our understanding of the genetic basis of NETs has improved.
To analyze if immunohistochemistry (IHC) of ATRX and DAXX is a strong prognostic marker we evaluated 110 PanNETs, 23 small intestine NETs, and 8 colorectal NETs. To verify and analyze the sensitivity and specificity of ATRX and DAXX IHC, we performed NGS. Therefore, we designed our own costume NGS Panel, which includes, besides ATRX and DAXX, the most known mutations of NETs. This allows us to identify the most relevant prognostic markers and we will be able to clarify which markers should be analyzed and have a strong prognostic value. The promising results and conclusion are still in progress and will be demonstrated at the conference.
