Awareness of Artificial Intelligence among the Radiological Sciences Students in Riyadh Region

    Background: Due to the fact that artificial intelligence is one of the newest sciences, there are concerns among students that it may replace radiographers and that it may eventually replace human beings. We want to assess the students' level of awareness and the depth of their concerns regarding artificial intelligence through our research.

    Purpose: To assess radiological science students' (future radiographers) knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) and its application to radiology in Riyadh region, Saudi Arabia.

    Educational Points Material and Method: Our study was conducted from 12 February 2022 to 1 June 2023. Data were gathered using online questionnaire which was sent to 7 universities and colleges in Riyadh region. 209 (3rd and 4th year) students participated in the study.

    Results: The majority of students 136 (65.7%) are aware of artificial intelligence. Interestingly, 137 (66%) of students believe AI will increase the skills and capabilities while 36 (17.4%) think it will not 0.101 (48.8%) students do not believe that as will affect their choice to be a radiographers. 77 (37.2%) they have no fear because of replacement by artificial intelligence while 66 (31.9%) are afraid that AI will replace their future job as radiographers. 83 (40.1%) students do not feel any suspicious about AI development in our field the majority will use AI in clinical studies. The majority of students (105 (50.7%)) are planning to Learn AI while 28(13.5%) are not interested to learn artificial intelligence. 87 (42%) of students think that AI will dawn size error of human factor while 79 (38.2%) not sure about this

    Conclusion: Our study showed that the majority of applied medical sciences students in Riyadh region are aware of AI and its application in the field of radiography. However, there is a fear among students about AI that may replace their future career. AI courses must be included in the university curriculum for teaching applied medical sciences students (future radiographers).
