Introduction: The use of mobile phones is increasing worldwide. Mobile devices are becoming rapidly available and are being used as essential tools in promoting health, preventing disease and medical education. Objective: characterized mobile applications (apps) used on mobile devices available on digital platforms that address topics about surgical oncological. Methods: An exploratory research was conducted in June 2019 on the iTunes App Store (Apple Inc, Brazil) and the Google Play Store (Google Inc, Brazil) using Lenovo Vibe K5 and iPhone 8 Plus mobile phones. The term MeSH "Surgical Oncology" was applied. Qualified applications were initially selected and then downloaded for evaluation of functionality and quality using the Mobile App Rating Scale (MARS). Results: A total of 60 apps were found; two were excluded (repeated). The category description identified 42 (70%) books, journals, magazines, manuals, guidelines, or dictionaries. Medicine was the principal application area with 38 (63.3%) apps. Within this category, there has been significant annual growth since 2017. The inclusion criteria were the download frequency and publication time. The ten most downloaded applications from the previous two years were selected and evaluated according to the MARS scale, and the average quality was between 3.0 and 4.75. Conclusion: Although there is a lot of App in health, there are a minimal number of App for surgical oncology. The present study may suggest the development of more adequate tools in this area, with the elaboration of new functionalities and patient communication, which were absent in the available applications.
