Microvascular Decompression in Hypoglossal Nerve Palsy: Illustrative Surgical Video

    The hypoglossal nerve palsy is an extremely rare condition, here we present a case of hypoglossal palsy which was successfully treated with microvascular decompression. A 62-year-old female presents with long-term tongue spasm and complex pain in the tongue, jaw, and teeth on the right side. The posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) was found to be compressing the hypoglossal rootlets during the microvascular decompression. The tongue spasm improved significantly upon completion of the procedure.
