ABSTRACT

Since the start of our uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) program at Georgetown University Medical Center, our approach to patient selection, procedure techniques, and postprocedure care has evolved. In this article, we summarize our current protocol for UFE and the rationale for our approach. Many of the technical issues associated with UFE are as yet unsettled, and we hope to stimulate others to present their approach. We describe some of the pitfalls associated with measuring outcome for the procedure. We conclude with our perspective on the remaining research issues that require further study.
