Chlamydieninfektionen in der Neurologie

Seit einigen Monaten rücken die Spezies der Chlamydien immer stärker in den Mittelpunkt des Interesses. Bei diesem Erregertyp handelt es sich um intrazelluläre, kokkoide, gramnegative Bakterien. Chlamydia pneumoniae führt zu Erkrankungen der Atemwege und stellt dabei eine häufige Ursache für meist leicht verlaufende Pneumonien dar. Seit einiger Zeit haben Forschungsergebnisse neue Zusammenhänge zwischen dem Auftreten einzelner Krankheitsbilder und einer Infektion mit Chlamydia pneumoniae geliefert [17] [18]. Auf dem Gebiet der Kardiologie wird eine solche Wechselwirkung bei der Entstehung der Arteriosklerose als möglich eingestuft [2] [3] [21] [22] [23]. Provokativ wurden die Chlamydien bereits als »Helicobacter der Kardiologie« bezeichnet. Zur Zeit wird besonders auf dem Gebiet der neurologischen Erkrankungen intensiv über mögliche Zusammenhänge diskutiert.
