This paper is a personal view by the authors of some of the major controversies that currently face paediatric cardiac anaesthetists in the United Kingdom (UK); it should be noted that our views are not necessarily representative of other UK anaesthetists working in this field. The issues that we have chosen to discuss have been the subject of important changes in national or local policies in the last few years, and that have had (or will have) a substantial impact on our clinical practice.
