Die arterielle Hypertonie ist ein wesentlicher Risikofaktor für atherosklerotische Gefäßveränderungen und kardiovaskuläre Ereignisse wie Myokardinfarkt und Schlaganfall [25]. Der regelmäßige Genuss alkoholischer Getränke ist mit einer Erhöhung des arteriellen Blutdruckes assoziiert [5] [20] [22]. Andererseits ist in zahlreichen Studien belegt, dass moderater Alkoholkonsum mit einer Senkung der Gesamtsterblichkeit und insbesondere kardiovaskulärer Ereignisse vergesellschaftet ist [6] [12] [15] [44-46] [54]. Es stellt sich somit die Frage, in welchen Situationen die potenziell günstigen Effekte eines mäßigen Alkoholkonsums keine negativen Folgen erwarten lassen, und wann Alkoholgenuss schädliche Auswirkungen hat. Im Folgenden sollen ein Überblick über die Zusammenhänge von Alkoholkonsum und arterieller Hypertonie vermittelt und unter Berücksichtigung der aktuellen Empfehlungen des „Joint National Committee on Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure” (JNC) praktische Hinweise für die individuelle Patientenführung und -beratung gegeben werden.
