eFirst - Veröffentlichung von Artikeln vor der Printversion

Inhaltsübersicht

Wir freuen uns, einen neuen Service vorstellen zu können, der für Ultraschall in der Medizin/European Journal of Ultrasound ab sofort zur Verfügung steht: eFirst. Bekanntlich werden kurze Publikationszeiten immer wichtiger in der heutigen Wissenschaftspublizistik. Daher haben wir eFirst eingeführt, unseren neuen Online-Service für eine schnellere Veröffentlichung von Artikeln. Mit eFirst können Artikel bereits wenige Tage nach Freigabe durch den korrespondierenden Autor online veröffentlicht werden, unter Umständen Wochen vor Verfügbarkeit der Printversion - je nachdem, wie hoch die Anzahl druckreifer Beiträge in der "Warteschleife" ist. Zu den eFirst-Beiträgen von Ultraschall in der Medizin gelangen Sie über die Startseite von www.thieme-connect.de (siehe Abbildung); klicken Sie dort auf das eFirst-Symbol.

Alle in eFirst veröffentlichten Artikel werden anschließend im gedruckten Heft publiziert. Die in eFirst publizierte elektronische Fassung gilt im bibliografischen Sinne als vollwertig publiziert und ist voll zitierfähig - nachträgliche Korrekturen für die gedruckte Ausgabe sind nur in Form von Errata möglich. Damit ist das Datum der Online-Veröffentlichung in eFirst das definitive Publikationsdatum eines Artikels.

Wie kann ein eFirst-Artikel zitiert werden? Der Beitrag ist noch keiner bestimmten Ausgabe zugeteilt, sodass Seitenzahlen, Heftnummer -ggf. sogar Erscheinungsjahr -noch nicht bekannt sind. Zitierbar ist er jedoch über den Digital Object Identifier (DOI), einen Identifizierungscode, der den bekannten Identifikationsystemen ISSN und ISBN vergleichbar ist. Jeder eFirst-Artikel erhält seinen eigenen, unverwechselbaren DOI, der zusammen mit dem Datum der Online-Veröffentlichung abgebildet wird - auch später in der Printversion. Ein Beispiel für die Zitierweise eines in eFirst veröffentlichten Artikels:

Nachdem der Artikel im Druck erschienen ist, sollte er wie folgt zitiert werden:

Sobald die Printversion verfügbar ist wird die eFirst-Version mit dem Vermerk ">" versehen. Zeitgleich ist der Artikel in der Online-Version des aktuellen Heftes zu finden - in eFirst verschwindet er dagegen 30 Tage nach Erscheinen der Printausgabe.

Die Abstracts der Artikel sind allen Besuchern von eFirst zugänglich. Abonnenten von Ultraschall in der Medizin haben zusätzlich Zugriff auf die Volltexte, verfügbar in HTML- und PDF-Format. Übrigens: Sie können sich kostenlos per E-Mail eine Übersicht der neuesten eFirst-Artikel regelmäßig zusenden lassen. Die Registrierung dazu können Sie unter www.thieme-connect.de bequem über die Seite mit dem Inhaltsverzeichnis der aktuellen Ausgabe vornehmen. Klicken Sie dazu auf "Inhaltsverzeichnis per E-Mail".

eFirst - Articles Published ahead of Print

We are pleased to announce a new service for the authors and readers of Ultraschall in der Medizin/European Journal of Ultrasound. Fast publication times are becoming more and more important in research. We therefore have introduced eFirst to publish articles well in advance of their publication in a print issue. As of now, shortly after receiving the authors' corrections, articles of the journal are available under eFirst in the digital journals database. eFirst articles of Ultraschall in der Medizin are accessible online at www.thieme-connect.com by clicking on the eFirst icon (see figure).

All articles published in eFirst are published later in the printed version of Ultraschall in der Medizin", according to the regular print schedule. The date of online publication is now the definite publication date for each paper. The version of an article published in eFirst is, therefore, considered the final version and is fully citable. Thus, we will not be publishing "updated" or "corrected" versions of articles. Any errors found subsequently after online publication may only be corrected by publishing errata.

How can eFirst articles be cited? Since they are not assigned yet to a specific issue, bibliographic information, such as page ranges and issue numbers, are unknown. The articles can be cited, however, by means of their Digital Object Identifier (DOI). This is simply a unique code that specially identifies an online article. The DOI is included in both the print and electronic versions. By using the DOI, it is also possible to search directly for that article on the internet. In addition, a DOI enables us to find the article in databases. For detailed information consult www.doi.org.

eFirst articles that have not yet been published in a print issue should be cited in this format:

After the paper has been published in print it should be cited as follows:

As soon as the print version of the article is available, the info "Now Published in Print" is added to the eFirst table of contents. At the same time, the article appears in the online version of the new issue. In eFirst, it will disappear 30 days after release of the print version.

The abstracts of articles are open to all visitors of eFirst. Subscribers to Ultraschall in der Medizin additionally have access to the full text version, with the option to either read the searchable article in html, with active links, or to use the pdf format for download if this is preferred. Finally, we strongly encourage all our readers to register for receiving the table of contents of eFirst articles via e-mail immediately after publication.
