Summary
Evidence from one quasi randomized controlled trial suggests that the incidence of heterotopic ossification (Brooker class III or IV) may be less for those receiving radiation therapies versus indomethacin following surgical repair of acetabular fracture but the difference was not statistically significant. It is possible that this study was underpowered to detect a difference. Among patients with concomitant long-bone fractures, however, indomethacin use was associated with over a three-fold increase in nonunion of the long bone.
