an.
The prevalence of overweight and obesity in children and youth is increasing. Besides
a genetic background and low socio-economic status high energy intake and physical
inactivity play an important role in this development. Potential comorbidities like
cardiovascular risk factors, orthopaedic and psycho-social disorders, persistence
in adulthood turn the childhood obesity to a major problem of our health system. The
benefit of preventive and therapeutic countermeasures is inconsistent, data are sparse.
Therefore, a systematic review of all published data and an interdisciplinary cooperation
of all workers in health care and associated fields are warranted based on adequate
political structures.
