Katzen leiden häufig an Erkrankungen der unteren Harnwege (Hardie und Kyles 2004). Als Symptome treten Hämaturie, Strangurie und teils erhebliche Schmerzäußerungen auf. Anorexie, Erbrechen, Gewichtsverlust, Depression und Lethargie können ebenfalls auf eine Erkrankung der unteren Harnwege hinweisen. Wenn die Nierenfunktion in Mitleidenschaft gezogen ist, zeigt sich außerdem eine postrenale Azotämie.
