During the last 3 years, I have had the privilege of inviting one of my former Fellows in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility to serve as Guest Editor for Seminars in Reproductive Medicine. In this issue, I have recruited Dr. Kevin J. Doody to serve as guest editor for the issue on Advances in Assisted Reproduction.

Kevin is a board-certified Reproductive Endocrinologist. He is currently the laboratory and executive director of the Center for Assisted Reproduction in Bedford, Texas. He is in practice with his wife Kathleen, who is also a board-certified Reproductive Endocrinologist. Dr. Doody is Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. He has opened his practice for fellows training with UT Southwestern and received the UT Fellows Outstanding Teacher award in 2004. He has been instrumental in the development of an electronic health record/information system designed specifically for infertility, and was recently named Microsoft Physician of the Year (2004). Dr. Doody attended medical school and completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, TX). Following this, he completed a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology at the UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Dr. Doody has been a pioneer in the clinical implementation of blastocyst culture. The Center for Assisted Reproduction was the first center in the United States to apply this technique to all in vitro fertilization cycles and has continued to do so since January of 1998. Dr. Doody remains active academically, publishing his work and presenting his clinical research at national and international meetings.
