In diesem Beitrag werden Durchführung und Darstellung der Verschlüsse von Atriumseptumdefekten (ASD I und II), persistierendem Foramen ovale (PFO) und des linken Herzohrs (LAA) aus Sicht eines / einer Radiotechnologen / Radiotechnologin beschrieben.

Atrial septal defects are the most common congenital heart defects affecting the female sex more often than the male (2: 1). An atrial septal defect (ASD) or patent foramen ovale (PFO) are defects of the septum between the right and left atria. The differentiation between ASD I and ASD II is a prerequisite for further intervention. After clarification by means of an ultrasound examination and a transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) the extent of the shunt volume can be verified. The consequences of nontreatment are right heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, dyspnea, edema, ventricular arrhythmias or recurrent pulmonary infections. ASD II and PFO are occluded angiographically using an occluder, the ASD I need surgically repaired with a patch. Patients with atrial fibrillation have a greater risk of forming thrombi in the left ear of the heart. Closing the left atrial appendage with an occluder (left atrial appendage) can prevent thromboembolism.
