Abstract

Specific concepts for the preservation of youthfulness and strength even in old age form an integral part of Āyurvedic medicine for 2000 years. The specific āyurvedic specialty, which addresses this aim, is called Rasāyana. Herbal drugs as well as complex therapeutic treatments and also a health-enhancing behaviour form part of Rasāyana. In āyurvedic medicine all these strategies have to be employed individually by taking into account factors like the constitution, age and other individual determinants of a person. In this summary therapeutic means as well as strategies of Rasāyana are presented.
