Patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) or Crohn’s colitis have an increased risk of colorectal cancer compared with the general population. Because colitis-associated dysplasia is often subtle, flat or not endoscopically identifiable, the first surveillance guidelines recommended sampling four random biopsies from every 10 cm of colon in addition performing targeted biopsies of lesions suspected of containing dysplasia [1].
