Goldimplantation: Neue Therapieform bei schmerzhafter Arthrose

Melanie Endrizzi

Abstract

Painful arthrosis often is a problem with increasing age. With conventional therapies the hoped-for treatment results can not be achieved in all patients.

The still relatively new therapy form of gold implantation offers an additional possibility to alleviate the symptoms. In this therapy, approximately 2 mm long pieces of 24-carat fine gold wire are implanted around the painful joint under local anesthesia. Experience from practice shows that the therapy rarely causes complications and is well tolerated. Inflammation in the joint, swelling as well as pain are reduced. It is assumed that the anti-inflammatory properties of gold are the mode of action. Practical experience and initial studies show that gold implantation can be an effective and safe method in the case of arthrosis pain and limited mobility.

The author uses a case report from her practice to explain the procedure and the possible successes.
