Dear readers, authors, and friends of Endoscopy,

I wish you all a very happy New Year for 2022.

The past year has again been challenging for all of us, and I would like to thank you for your immense support to Endoscopy in 2021.

Once again, our impact factor has broken records, at a historic 10 093. This reflects the high quality of submissions and the professionalism and excellence of our editorial team, but above all the appreciation of readers and authors.

This year saw the introduction of infographics to Endoscopy articles. These graphics help readers to quickly ascertain the purpose and results of an investigation, as well as the salient details that distinguish this study from others.

The Co-Editors Board is renewing itself and in 2022 we are going to introduce Junior Co-Editors, who, working with the Editors-in-Chief and the Co-Editors, will develop the key skills for successfully editing a scientific journal. Another task of the Junior Co-Editors will be to promote the journal on social media channels, where Endoscopy is currently already doing very well.

I would like to gratefully thank Professor Maria Pellisé and Professor Takao Itoi who are leaving their roles as Co-Editors. We expect to announce new Co-Editors in 2022. The Editorial Board also starts a new term of service in 2022 and we will welcome our new colleagues in the coming months. A very special thanks also to our Editorial Office, who tirelessly assist the editorial team in preparing each months’ Endoscopy issue

Last but not least, the next Endoscopy Editorial Board meeting is planned to be a face-to-face meeting at ESGE Days 2022; the latter will be held in Prague from 28 to 30 April 2022. It will be an immense pleasure to meet there with the Editorial Board, as well as to connect with our readers and authors during the congress. Also, during ESGE Days 2022, I invite you to join us at a special session dedicated to three landmark papers, published in the more than 50-year history of Endoscopy, and that have been shown to have introduced a key technique or topic in the endoscopic field.

The editorial team and I wish you a healthy, happy, and stress-free 2022!

Peter D. Siersema, Editor-in-Chief, Endoscopy
