Author commentary on Krithi Krishna Koduri et al.
Walled-off pancreatic necrosis was treated by EUS-guided drainage using either a biflanged metal stent (BFMS) or two 7-Fr plastic stents, in this randomized single-center study including 92 patients. The rates of overall clinical success, adverse events, and recurrence did not differ between the groups; however, drainage with a BFMS required fewer reinterventions, a shorter hospital stay, and had a higher reintervention-free clinical success at 4 weeks. This highlights that more reinterventions are needed with plastic stents compared with BFMSs to achieve similar clinical success.
