Therapie mit Blutegeln

Zusammenfassung

Die Renaissance der Blutegeltherapie ist kürzer als ein halbes Jahrhundert. Nun wurde im September 2008 die Zulassung als Fertigarzneimittel beantragt. Die klinische Forschung mit Blutegeln überblickt sogar erst ein gutes Jahrzehnt, ein relativ kurzer Zeitraum gemessen an der mehr als 3000-jährigen Geschichte dieser Therapie.

Gonarthrose ist eine der häufigsten Indikationen für eine Blutegeltherapie, hier liegen auch die meisten klinischen Studien vor. Diese bestätigen einen signifikanten und klinisch relevanten Therapieerfolg.

Abstract

The renaissance of hirudinization occurred less than half a century ago. Now, in September 2008, the approval as finished drugs has been applied. Clinical research with leeches lasts only about ten years, a relatively short period compared to the history of more than 3000 years of this therapy.

Osteoarthrosis of the knee is one of the most frequent indications for hirudinization. The majority of clinical studies exists for this disease. These studies confirm a significant and clinically relevant therapeutic success.
