Treatment outcomes of psychiatric patients are still rather disappointing. Therefore, new strategies to enhance compliance are of particular interest. Two strategies, namely telephone interventions and monetary reinforcement, have been evaluated in various studies and have shown a positive effect on patients' compliance. The application of such interventions in the field of psychiatry seems to have promise, and new studies of high methodological quality are strongly indicated.
