The Moscow Endosonography Club

In recent years there has been a substantial growth in the number of devices and experts of EUS in Russia and especially in Moscow.

Aims: To publish the work of the Moscow Endosonography Club and to plan a program for the future.

Activity: The Club has been meeting since 4 November 2009, when it was decided to arrange meetings to invite several speakers to address one theme. Papers are presented in three basic groups: “ABC of EUS”, “EUS Institute” and “World EUS”. The subject and date of the next session are agreed collectively, and announced one or two months beforehand on the internet site http://eus.su/moscowclub.html. Endosonographers are joined by experts of other specialites – anaesthesiologists, radiologists, surgeons, ultrasonographer, etc. for round table discussions of the reports.

Results: Since November 2009 till July 2010 the Club has met eight times to discuss the following themes: ”Report on 3 EGEUS conference”, “EUS equipment”, “Preparation and sedation protocols for EUS”, “EUS place in diagnostic algorithm of various diseases”, “EUS of GIT wall in norm”, “EBUS in norm”, “EUS and EBUS of normal mediastinum”, “Preparation for EUS Symposium on The Russian Gastroenterology Week 2010”. This will be the first such Symposium in Russia, and it will be organized by the Moscow Endosonography Club. To fulfill the long-term aim of creating a Russian Association of specialists of endoscopic ultrasonography, it is planned to hold Internet video-conferencing sessions. It is also planned to prepare teaching materials and participate in Russian and international conferences.

Conclusion: The Moscow Endosonography Club has made a successful start, and should become the basis of the Russian Association for Specialists of Endoscopic Ultrasonography (RASEUS).
