Objective:

To investigate the diagnostic value of miniature ultrasonic probes (MUPs) in digestive tract diseases by method of U-type reverse gastroscopy.

Methods:

MUPs (20MHz) was performed in 84 patients who were suspicious gastric varices with endoscopic ultrasonic procedures by method of U-type reverse gastroscopy. And endoscopic therapy according to the Endoscopic ultrasonography diagnosis.

Results:

The diagnostic accuracy of gastric varices by conventional endoscopy finding and MUPS by method of U-type reverse gastroscopy was 82% (69/84) and 100% (84/84), respectively.

After the treatment of patients in the follow-up endoscopy ultrasonography may diagnose residual or recurrence of varices and continue treatment.

Conclusions:

High-frequency miniature ultrasonic probe of 20MHz performance via method of U-type reverse gastroscope is demonstrated to be significantly superior to conventional endoscopic diagnosis in both accurate diagnosis ability of gastric varices and evaluation of efficacy of endoscopic therapy in the follow-up patients. It is very useful to make out more safe, effective and economical therapeutic decisions. Furthermore, MUPs that can be used during conventional endoscopy may greatly simplify the procedure.
