Abstract

Older people are at risk due to aging processes (organ function, bowel, absorption) and missing or reduced diet for micronutrient deficiencies. This involves not only protein and some amino acids, particularly omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, zinc, selenium, vitamin B12 and D3. Other important substances such as sodium, potassium, coenzyme Q10, vitamin B6 and α-lipoic acid must be considered. Proper diagnosis and supplementation appears not only reasonable, but in terms of patronage of chronic and neurodegenerative diseases, osteoporosis, tendency to fall and infection prophylaxis vital need for a „good“ aging with high quality of life.
