Die Dynamik neuer innovativer Therapiekonzepte und Medikamente war insbesondere auf dem Gebiet der Rheumatoiden Arthritis in den vergangenen Jahren konstant auf sehr hohem Niveau. In der Rheumatologie ist die Rheumatoide Arthritis traditionsgemäß aufgrund ihrer hochentzündlichen und rasch progressiven Natur bei gleichzeitig inzwischen gut bekannter Pathophysiologie der Vorreiter der meisten dieser Entwicklungen. Daneben gibt sie, als „rheumatologisches Flaggschiff“, vor allem im Bereich der sogenannten Biologika und der „small molecules“, häufig den Stimulus, antiinflammatorische Medikamente auch bei verwandten rheumatischen und chronisch-entzündlichen Erkrankungen einzusetzen.
