Resumo

Os autores relatam um caso em que o paciente, na tentativa de suicídio por auto-infligimento, penetrou um prego de 2 e ½ polegadas de comprimento no vértex do crânio, usando um martelo. Trata-se de situação não registrada na literatura pesquisada.

Apresenta-se a técnica cirúrgica empregada.

Abstract

The authors report a case of suicide attempt by self-inflicted nailing into the skull. The patient introduced a 2 1/2 inches long nail into his skull, through the vertex, using a hammer. At admission the patient did no present any evident neurological deficit.

The nail was removed in bloc with the bone flap of the craniectomy performed around the nail head. The laceration of the superior sagital sinus was sutured. The postoperative evolution was uneventful and the patient was discharged on the 10th postoperative day.
