Image guided interventions in gastro-intestinal system have evolved greatly and new developments are underway that should become standard of care in the upcoming year or two including advancements in imaging, diagnosis, and interventions. This issue of DDI explores innovations in image guided interventions for the digestive tract. Experts in imaging, interventional radiology/oncology as well as surgeons honored us by sharing the upcoming trends in various specialties such as the use 4D ultrasound for monitoring and assessment of locoregional therapies. A slew of clinical trials with novel liquid embolics are currently underway and should be approved in the upcoming months. There has been a reenergized interest in ablative techniques with several new technologies in clinical trials. The interplay of locoregional therapies and the immune system with potential for combination therapies is also reviewed. New procedures and/or techniques for old problems such as cryoablation of the gallbladder for cholecystitis and new enteral nutritional access are discussed. Laparoscopic hepatobiliary surgical techniques are reviewed to better understand what our colleagues can offer patients. Porto-mesenteric venous interventions complementary to the surgical techniques are discussed. This issue is meant to provide an insight to the interventional radiologist today of what tomorrow will look like in gastro-intestinal interventions.
