Die Echinokokkosen des Menschen sind Zoonosen als Folge einer Infektion mit den Larvenstadien der Gattung Echinococcus, bei denen der Mensch als Fehlzwischenwirt fungiert. Für Mitteleuropa bzw. Deutschland humanmedizinisch relevant sind

• die zystische Echinokokkose – Hundebandwurmerkrankung, verursacht durch Echinococcus granulosus – und

• die alveoläre Echinokokkose – Fuchsbandwurmerkrankung, verursacht durch Echinococcus multilocularis.

Da das Wachstumsverhalten der beiden Spezies im Menschen sehr unterschiedlich ist, resultieren 2 in Diagnostik, Therapie und Prognose verschiedene Erkrankungen, weswegen die beiden Krankheitsbilder hier separat vorgestellt werden sollen.
