Comparative study between COOLLIGHT and PICOLIGHT powder KITs for colonoscopy bowel preparation -Single centre study

Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer worldwide, accounting for approximately 10% of all cancer cases and is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Therefore, screening colonoscopy is recommended from age forty-five through the seventy-five. At IGIC Endoscopy Central Hospital center, from 2019 to 2024, 9832 colonoscopies were performed using PEG solutions, PICOLIGHT and Cool light, with numbers 3732 and 6100 respectively. This study is performed due to cleaning performance of these drugs varies, and that adequate cleaning directly affects the results of colonoscopy. To determine the quality of PEG bowel solutions for the colonoscopy preparation. Because of inadequate bowel preparation, there some complication appear such as duration of colonoscopy is prolonged, may lead incomplete colonoscopy and increases risk of post-colonoscopy colon cancer.

We retrospectively reviewed 100 clients, who underwent colonoscopy, 50 out of 100 drank COOLLIGHT powder KIT and the remaining 50 drank PICOLIGHT powder KIT. Therefore, there were 38 male and 62 female clients, 10 people aged 20-30 years old, 24 people aged 31-40 years old, 25 people aged 51-50 years old, 24 people aged 51-60 years old, 11 people aged 61-70 years old, and 6 people aged over 71 years.

50 clients who took PICOLIGHT powder KIT, 12 of them had complete preparation, while the remaining 38 had inadeuate bowel preparation. On the contrary clients who drank COOLLIGHT powder KIT, 49 people has proper bowel preparation, except 1 client had inadequate bowel preparation due to drinking less volume of water.

The PICOLIGHT powder KIT preparation is might be worse than COOLLIGHT powder KIT, and has an uncomfortable side effects.
