Thermolysis of pyrimidinylaminomethylene derivatives 3 of Meldrum's acid (2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane-4,6-dione) produced 2-arylpyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidin-5(8H)-ones 4 in moderate to excellent yield.
