By the use of (S)-(-)-1-phenylethylamine as a chiral auxiliary as well as a nitrogen atom donor, (S,S)-(+)- and (R,R)-(-)-2,5- bis(methoxymethyl)pyrrolidine were synthesized from dimethyl meso-2,5-dibromoadipate through a short reaction sequence including stereoselective hydrolysis and chromatographic separation of intermediary diastereoisomers.
