Ozonolysis of mono-, di- and trisubstituted olefins in 2.5 M methanolic sodium hydroxide-dichloromethane leads directly to methyl esters in high yield. For example, 3-benzyloxy-1-nonene (5b) was converted into methyl 2-benzyloxyoctanoate (7b) in 78% yield.
