A simple two-step method for the preparation of racemic α-heteroaryl substituted glycinates (5) having fused 1,2,4-triazole systems starting from 4-hydroxymethylene-2-phenyl-5(4H)-oxazolone (1) or ethyl formylhippurate (2) and heteroarylhydrazines having hydrazino group in the α-position to the ring nitrogen via ethyl 2-benzoylamino-3-(heteroarylhydrazono)propionates 3 is reported.
