Positioning two transition metal ions at particular distances apart is of considerable interest for molecular recognition of biomolecules, nucleotide hydrolysis and for construction of enzyme mimics. Design and successful synthesis of several new ligands, capable of forming both rigid and flexible metal complexes are reported.
