Nysted reagent [cyclo-dibromodi-µ-methylene(µ-tetrahydrofuran)trizinc], a commercially available gem-dimetallic compound, reacted with aldehydes affording methylenated products in the presence of BF3·OEt2, whereas methylenation of ketones proceeded in the presence of BF3·OEt2 and TiCl2.
