Abstract

Repair of distal biceps tendon ruptures has received increasing attention in the past decade. For the active individual who desires the return of function in the injured arm to a level as near to normal as possible, acute repair of a distal biceps tendon rupture is recommended. Methods for repair include a single anterior incision technique that employs suture anchor fixation and a two incision technique that employs transosseous suture fixation. Chronic ruptures may be repaired with tendon or fascial grafts. Complications are rare, the most serious of which is the formation of a forearm synostosis which has been reported following repair with the two incision technique.
