Zusammenfassung

Die rheumatoide Arthritis ist eine Erkrankung, die sich in jedem Lebensalter manifestieren kann und überwiegend vor dem 60. Lebensjahr beginnt. Entgegen einer früheren und zum Teil leider noch heute verbreiteten Ansicht, dass man bei „Rheuma” nichts tun könne, besteht inzwischen eine Vielfalt von hoch wirksamen therapeutischen Möglichkeiten, den Krankheitsprozess zu kontrollieren, eine Progredienz zu verhindern oder zumindest so deutlich zu verlangsamen, dass spürbare Beeinträchtigungen der Gelenkfunktionen nicht eintreten.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease that can become manifest at any age, and usually begins before the age of 60. Despite the earlier - unfortunately sometimes still held - opinion that nothing can be done to treat the condition, a whole range of highly effective therapeutic options are now available for managing the disease process, preventing further progression or at least slowing its progress to such an extent that noticeable impairment of articular function do not occur.
