Summary

In the daily routine of the medical rescue service, urological emergencies such as acute urinary retention, calculus-related colic, macrohaematuria "acute external genitals" and urosepsis are rarely encountered. This is in contrast to (the experience of) emergency services organized by panel doctors or the emergency department of middle-sized or large hospitals. Thus, for example, in 2002, the urological department of the Municipal Hospital in Cologne (63 beds, catchment area: 500,000 inhabitants, recorded 2697 emergencies, one emergency medical practice run by panel doctors in the catchment area)
