Introduction

The role of endoscopy in finding and handling premalignant and malignant lesions represents a substantial proportion of endoscopic practice. Many of these areas are covered by other reviews, and as in previous years, this review will therefore focus on selected areas. I have chosen to highlight enhanced imaging for diagnosis, expandable stents for intraluminal palliation, and endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for definitive treatment of early cancer.
