Introduction

This report aims to highlight selected abstracts on endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) presented at Digestive Disease Week (DDW) 2006 in Los Angeles. The format of the Endoscopy DDW update reports limits the number of abstracts for detailed discussion to 20. Inevitably, I have had to make a selection, and this is based on what I considered to be abstracts that provide important additional information that expands or limits established indications for EUS, or abstracts discussing novel applications with a potential to become part of everyday clinical practice. Abstracts not discussed in detail may not be less interesting, and the reader is encouraged to read them all.
