Summary

During the past 15 years, 343 out of a total of 5015 laparoscopies were performed as emergency procedures at our university hospital. Suspected peritonitis was the indication in 164 patients, and blunt abdominal trauma, with and without suspicion of intraabdominal bleeding, in 179 patients. Correct diagnosis was achieved in 92.7 % and 98.8 % respectively. No complications were observed. Peritoneoscopy is a very accurate diagnostic tool when applied in such situations.
