Summary

Amyloidosis of the gastrointestinal tract can mimic a variety of different conditions. The symptoms and findings depend upon the localization and extent of the amyloid deposits. This report concerns a 53-year-old female patient with secondary amyloidosis in the presence of a plasmocytoma, in whom, at endoscopy, petechial mucosal sugillations were observed in the distal colon. The cause of the mucosal petechiae were probably vascular changes induced by deposits of amyloid.
