Summary
Prebiotics are made up of short chain fatty acids responsible for the reduction of the PH-value in the content of the intestines. These are at the same time the source of energy for enterocytes and the entire organism. In vitro fermentation experiments carried out on the faecal cultures of the species pig, dog and cow show that due to topinambur, there were discernible differences with regard to prebiotic effect in the animals. According to further study involving weaned piglets, additional 1 % topinambur flour in the fodder can positively influence the intestinal microbiota of the animal.
