Als Biomarker werden in der Medizin biologische Moleküle bezeichnet, die eine Krankheit und/oder deren Verlauf über eine messbare Veränderung anzeigen. Biomarker können mit einer Reihe unterschiedlicher Methoden und Techniken in Körperflüssigkeiten oder in Geweben nachgewiesen werden. Biomarker erlangen insbesondere im Management von Krebspatienten und in der Entwicklung neuer Substanzen zur Krebsbehandlung eine immer wichtigere Rolle.
