Tratamento fisioterapêutico no trismo radioinduzido após câncer de cabeça e pescoço: relato de caso

RESUMO

Trismo é um dos efeitos colaterais mais comuns da radioterapia em regiäo de cabeça e pescoço e pode ser caracterizado por uma mobilidade reduzida da mandíbula, decorrente de fibrose na musculatura mastigatória. O objetivo do presente estudo foi verificar os efeitos do tratamento fisioterapêutico em um paciente com trismo radioinduzido. Foram realizadas 10 sessões de fisioterapia, sendo que o paciente foi avaliado antes e após a intervenção fisioterapêutica em relação às variàveis dor, amplitude de abertura bucal e qualidade de vida. O tratamento baseou-se em alongamentos, massoterapia, exercícios mandibulares ativos e ativo assistidos com auxílio de dispositivos terapêuticos, além da simulação do movimento de mascar goma. Após a intervenção notou-se uma melhora em relação à abertura bucal, dor e consequentemente da qualidade de vida do paciente. Os resultados encontrados nesta pesquisa sugerem a efetividade da fisioterapia no tratamento do trismo radioinduzido.

ABSTRACT

Trismus is one of the most common collateral effects of radiotherapy in the head and neck region and can be characterized by reduced mobility of the mandible due to fibrosis in the masticatory musculature. The objective of the present study was to verify the effects of the physiotherapeutic treatment in a patient with radio induced trismus. Ten sessions of physiotherapy were performed, and the patient was evaluated before and after the physiotherapeutic intervention in relation to pain variables, range of mouth opening and quality of life. The treatment was based on stretching, massage therapy, active and active mandibular exercises assisted with the aid of therapeutic devices, in addition to the simulation of chewing bubble gum movement. After the intervention, it was noticed an improvement in relation to the mouth opening, pain and consequently the quality of life of the patient. The results found in this research suggest the effectiveness of the physiotherapeutic treatment in the treatment of radioinduced trismus.
