Etwa 20 000 Menschen erkranken jährlich an einem Larynxkarzinom (LASCC) in den USA. Die totale Laryngektomie gilt als Standard in der Behandlung, aber die onkologischen und funktionellen Ergebnisse sind wenig erforscht. Amerikanische Chirurgen haben den Langzeiteffekt der tracheoösophagealen Punktion und Einsetzung einer Stimmprothese auf die Lebensqualität bei Veteranen untersucht.
