Pradermchai Kongkam et al. ERCP plus endoscopic ultrasound-guided biliary drainage versus percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage for malignant hilar biliary obstruction: a multicenter observational open-label study

This nonrandomized study compared ERCP plus endoscopic ultrasound-guided biliary drainage with percutaneous transhepatic bile duct drainage (PTBD) in patients with Bismuth III and IV malignant hilar biliary obstruction. The combination modality resulted in significantly lower rates of recurrent bile duct obstruction at 3 and 6 months compared with bilateral PTBD. There were no differences in complication and mortality rates.
