Agnes N. Reijm et al. Self-expandable duodenal metal stent placement for the palliation of gastric outlet obstruction over the past 20 years

A total of 147 patients who underwent duodenal stent placement for malignant gastric outlet obstruction (GOO) in 1998–2009 and 2010–2019 were evaluated in this retrospective study. In the later period, GOO symptom-free survival was shorter and the stent-related adverse event rates increased, the latter being associated with prior treatment with chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy (CRT). In the era of increasing use of CRT in these patients, there is a need for more effective and safer treatment modalities for GOO.
