Jung Won Chun et al. Prolonged patency of fully covered self-expandable metal stents with an externally anchored plastic stent in distal malignant biliary obstruction

Stent migration is a drawback of the placement of fully covered self-expandable metal stents (FCSEMSs) for malignant biliary strictures. This retrospective multicenter study examined a novel and simple technique for anchoring the FCSEMS with a parallel 7-Fr double-pigtail plastic stent placed alongside. The new technique significantly decreased the migration rate from 28% to 11% and prolonged stent patency, without an increase in adverse events.
