Author commentary on Xiaonan Huang et al.
The analgesic effects of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation based on the wrist-ankle acupuncture theory (TENS-WAA) were explored in this randomized controlled trial from China. In 120 participants undergoing colonoscopy without anesthesia, high-intensity TENS-WAA reported significantly lower pain scores on a visual analog scale compared with controls; the effect was more pronounced in male participants.
